Where do you work?

I have been a web and app developer for over twelve years at Education Development Center in Waltham, Massachusetts.

What do you do?

In my current role, I develop apps, websites, and online learning interactives for a diverse range of students and educators using languages such as CSS, HTML5, PHP, and Powershell. Additionally, I supervise one of our developers, advise on technology solutions around the company, and help our project teams partner with outside vendors on large projects.

What does your development work typically involve?

My development work primarily involves the following:

  • Android App Development with Cordova
  • Drupal website building and theming
  • Front-End Web Development (JS & CSS)
  • Advising on technology solutions for eLearning

The majority of websites I work on are built with the Drupal content management system, and I have also worked on static sites and those built in WordPress. My current app development work is for Android, and I have also built iOS apps in the past.

I currently enjoy learning SVG Animation, Java, and Vue JS.

What did you do before EDC?

Before working as a developer, I wrote and illustrated the Dr. Birdley Teaches Science series, which you can read about at my other site, birdleymedia.com. I developed this 9-book series when I was teaching biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science at the high school and middle school levels.

What else do you do?

I tutor a range of subjects, including AP Computer Science and AP Biology.
